Operation American Hero

This is not a picture of the soldier of the week.

Cowboy Fellowship of Atascosa County believes in supporting our troops.  From this page we want everybody to have an opportunity to support the troops with an encouraging word.  Your note can be long, short, or some place in between, but let the soldier know how much you appreciate them.
Please know that the staff of Cowboy Fellowship for security reasons will screen all notes before they are sent.  We are also sending small care packages out to the soldiers, if you would like to donate something you can contact the office.
     Having
trouble thinking of what to write?  At the very bottom of this page you can read what others have written for ideas, please DO NOT use the same letters, these are just to help give you an idea of what to write. We have also started collecting new and gently used DVD's to send the soldiers. Most are base bound for safety and have a lot of time on their hands. You may place your donations in the box at the CD table at the back of the church. We try to send each soldier 2 or 3 movies to watch and share.

Letters From Our Heroes

This email was received by me  on Saturday from one of our soldiers in Iraq that we had sent a box to. I wanted you all to see how much these boxes mean to the guys and gals who receive them. Jerry writes:

WOW!!! I've got to say it again, WOW!!!!. I just received the package that you sent me. What you sent to us was more than anyone could imagine or wish for. Thank you for stepping up to the plate by supporting the GI's. I'm glad that you gave me an email address, because I hate to write on paper (but that does not mean that I won't). Email is a lot easier for me. It's wonderful to receive correspondence and care packages from individuals back home.

Here is a little info about me: I was born and raised in New Castle, PA. It's between Erie and Pittsburgh. I've been around the world at least once, that includes working in the southern hemisphere. I'm 44 and married to the love of my life and my best friend. Our years of marriage are measured with the statement that we give to anyone who asks how long we've been married: "Not long enough". We have 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls ranging in age from 26 to 15. Our oldest son Jason, 26,  died 17 months ago in an accident. It is tough living without him.

I am an Air Force Master Sergeant and have been serving our nation for over 24 years and I still love it. I hate leaving my family behind but we have been able to sustain the hard times. Keep up the great work and keep us in your prayers.

I emailed Jerry back and made sure to invite him to visit if he ever gets to South Texas and was so surprised to learn that he has family all around us, and he and his family go to Corpus for vacations! So he said it was a very real possibility that we will all be meeting soon! If you would like to send a letter to Jerry, please use the form below or just shoot me an email and I'll make sure he gets them.

Dear_American_Hero I want you to know just how much my family and I appreciate what you are doing for your country. My brother just returned from Iraq and I know just how difficult it can be at times but know that you are a very brave person for being there and defending the innocent that can not defend themselves. You may never meet all of the people that appreciate you and you may never be told "thank you" enough times to let you know what a wonderful job you are doing. So I want you to know, that on behalf of me and my son, I can not put into words how grateful we are. Words just don't seem to be enough to let you know what your sacrifices are worth to us. I hope your family and friends appreciate you as much as we do. Please take care of yourself and come home safe. With all of my heart I thank you for everything you have done and are doing. May God be with you always.

I don't know where you are, but I hope that you are as safe as possible. I do not know what you are going through, but I imagine that it is very difficult. I would like to say thank you for your selfless service. I know that I can only enjoy the freedoms this county offers because people like you have chosen to serve. I pray every day for the safety and security for those who serve our country. I teach my daughters that our freedom has a price, and that it is paid by people such as yourself. I am privileged and honored to be called a fellow American of our soldiers.

I know that talk is cheap and I do not know if you are able to send a reply to these letters, if there is anything you might need that I can help with please let me know.

Thank you for your service, I will never forget our soldiers.
