Build The Village

Welcome to our 1st grade class at Noel Academy                     April 23, 2008

 Friends,

Having been back from Kenya a week now, Randa and I wanted to catch you up on the work.  As you can see above, the classes are open, children are filling the seats and young lives are being encouraged.   Many of you have made this work a success and we want to thank you.

The second orphan home is nearly complete and will be ready to receive children by the middle of the summer.  This will be important in that we will have our application for accreditation to operate as an orphanage review for approval early July.  Having met with the government two weeks ago, they explained that this would be just a formality.  We expect to open our homes up to the displaced, neglected and abandoned children of Western Kenya.  Our fist house will be open to infants through age 3.

On a somber note, there is a serious crisis coming and hundreds of thousands will fall victim in the coming months.  This crisis is a coming famine in Kenya.  We at home are affected by high fuel prices and we all feel it’s effects, but in Kenya the higher fuel and political issues have pushed the cost of fertilizer from $15.00 a bag to over $60.00 per bag.  This means that the typical family has not used conventional fertilizers and thus there will be severe reduction in yield this fall and many will suffer.

The staff at Build the Village have pooled our financial resources, leased land and have begun farming to help protect the needs of the pastors’ and their families, our communities’ families and widows, the children of the school and our future children of Noel Children’s Center.  We thank the Lord for each of you who help us financially so we can help those who cannot help themselves.

Two weeks ago, we completed an outreach project in a community west of Eldoret using nationals to evangelize.  We were blessed to join along side them and to have had the privilege of sharing Christ hut-to-hut.  Upon the conclusion of this project,  278 people made professions of faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ.  We will continue to work in this community over the next couple of months providing discipleship.  God willing, we will help them to establish a community church.  Again, our friends help to make these kinds of activities possible by their continued support.

Friends, thank you again so very much for your prayers and your support and please continue to pray for Build the Village and the staff who strive to serve with excellence as we represent our Savoir.

 Until His return!

Damon, Randa, Aineahs and the Build the Village team.
